Kenneth “Kenny” Watson Jr. is a dynamic drummer, composer, and multi‑instrumentalist whose grooves blend gospel roots, jazz freedom, and fusion-funk energy. Born in San Antonio, Texas and raised near Whiteman Air Force Base, MO, his musical journey is deeply rooted in church, family, and the rhythms of Black American heritage.
Nominated for KC’s Best jazz drummer award through KC Jazz Ambassadors Magazine in 2025, Watson continues to evolve as an artist while already making significant waves: In 2020, Watson played bass on José Ramirez’s Delmark release Major League Blues, with the album recorded in Asheville, North Carolina.
As the driving force behind DaNoyze, his new fusion-funk collective, Kenny channels ultimate vibe—bringing together Kansas City’s top talent for a sound bursting with energy and interplay.
A vital member of Ken Lovern’s OJT, Green Lady Lounge’s House Band, Watson has invigorated the organ trio with his “fresh groove,” helping their latest album Ground Level soar—earning a spot in KPR’s Top 10 Jazz Releases and glowing reviews in Plastic Sax for its “profoundly groovy sound” .
Watson also proudly serves as a Board Member of the Mutual Musicians Foundation and continues to honor Kansas City’s historic jazz legacy while steering its future. His mission remains constant: to uplift, inspire, and connect through rhythm.
